Can I get a refund if I’ve applied for my Teacher’s Registration and it hasn’t been processed?

The Teacher’s Registration Board of South Australia (TRB) encourages upcoming graduate teachers to submit their application for Teacher’s Registration as soon as possible. This is due to the fact that processing Teacher’s Registration applications takes time, and it takes a much longer time to process each application when every teaching graduate in the state applies at the same time at the end of the semester.

The Teacher’s Registration Board of South Australia are there to help you through the process of becoming a
registered teacher.

Many teaching graduates will submit their application to the TRB as soon as they can, but manage to find another job while they are waiting for their application to be processed. There are a number of different jobs and roles available to teaching graduates, and many of them do not require Teacher’s Registration.

If you find yourself in this position, the TRB has been able to refund your payment if you withdraw your application. Many teaching graduates have found that the TRB are particularly understanding and prompt in issuing a refund if you request one while your Teacher’s Registration is still being processed.

Can I get a refund if I have already received my Teacher’s Registration?

It is highly unlikely that the Teacher’s Registration Board will refund your application fee if you application has already been processed and you are a registered teacher. In this case, the process has already been completed and the TRB’s work has already been done.

If you have found another job outside of teaching and no longer require Teacher’s Registration, you will still be a registered teacher until the time that you are required to renew your registration. This will not affect your job, and if you still wish to not work as a teacher in South Australia, you do not need to renew your registration.

Will I get refunded if my application for Teacher’s Registration is unsuccessful?

If your application for Teacher’s Registration is unsuccessful, you will be automatically refunded the fee that you have paid. Your application for Teacher’s Registration can be unsuccessful for a number of reasons, such as incorrectly completed paperwork or not having the required qualifications to become a registered teacher in South Australia.

If the solution is a quick fix such as incorrectly completed paperwork or a missing document, the Teacher’s Registration Board will often contact you by phone to let you know. In this case, you will be able to supply the changes without withdrawing your application and you will not require a refund.

If the reason why your application was unsuccessful was due to not having a degree or qualification that will enable you to become a registered teacher in South Australia, you will be informed and your fee will be refunded.

Who do I contact to get my Teacher’s Registration refunded?

If you wish to get your Teacher’s Registration refunded, you will need to go directly to the TRB. They are very helpful if you call or want to go into their office in the Adelaide CBD. They are more than happy to chat, answer any of your questions, and help find a solution to your problem.
