The number of years trained refers to the length of your cumulative degrees that go towards your teaching certification. If you only completed a 3-year teaching degree, then you will be “3 Year Trained”. If you completed a 3-year degree in a related field and then a 2-year teaching degree, you would be considered “5 Year Trained”.

Any teacher working in a TAS public school will not be able to go past Level 9 on any of these pay scales without moving to full teacher’s registration. All teachers are placed on Band 1; the other bands indicate leadership or higher positions.

Relief teachers will move up the levels in the pay scale based on the time that they have been teaching. Each level indicates another 200 working days in a school. The level you start on will depend on the years trained.

Catholic school relief teacher pay rates.

If you’re working as a relief teacher in TAS Catholic schools, your pay rate is a bit easier to figure out. The Catholic Education Office states that relief teachers will be paid a daily rate or an hourly rate depending on how long they have worked in a day.
